What better way to spend your trip to Iceland than taking in the AMAZING Northern Lights!
This winter package combines the wonder of Reykjavik and the vistas of the Golden Circle.
A winter break in Iceland is truly a memorable experience with short days and long nights only adding to the magic and wonder of Iceland.
This trip with a day at leisure in Reykjavik or with an optional tour of the Blue Lagoon. The next day you will spend the evening and night chasing the Northern Lights. On the final day you will take in Iceland’s Famous Golden Circle!
Arrive in Reykjavik Keflavik Airport where you start your trip.
On route to Reykjavik take in an optional stop at the Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa.
Next, you will explore the world’s most northerly capital. The main tourist sites of Reykjavik are easily visited by foot or by bus. The main landmarks are The Pearl, Hallgrímskirkja church, the National Museum of Iceland, the harbour and the famous 101 Reykjavik neighbourhood. A walking tour can be added as option, if you would prefer to maximize your first day.
The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis.
The locations visited are different every tour since we go where it’s most likely to see the Northern Lights each day. This tour is dependent on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. Refreshments not included
The Northern Lights are in the northern sky from September through April but are only visible when the sky is clear and free of clouds. Like many of natures wonders, it is ephemeral. They may be visible, they may appear for a bit and then be gone. But it’s worth the patience required. As this is a winter phenomenon, you need to be prepared to wait outside, while looking for them. It’s best to dress very warmly, in layers, with good footwear, gloves, hats and whatever else will make you comfortable while you await this truly outstanding event. The Northern Lights can be spectacular, and for the best photos we recommend using a tripod.
We follow sky conditions around the region to know and so take you to spots where we have the best chance of seeing the northern lights. We reserve the right to cancel this tour if the evening sky is heavily clouded or weather conditions are not right. When you are booked for this tour, please plan to reconfirm with the hotel reception staff between 18:00-19:00 to determine whether the tour will be operated or not.
Included on day two is a full day tour of the Golden Circel. This excursion includes Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot springs and Thingvellir National Park. The Golden Circle Tour give you the opportunity to walk around the world-famous Geysir geothermal area, a geothermal field where hot springs are in abundance, geysers explode and pools of mud bubble. For many, the highlight of this tour, and indeed their stay in Iceland, is the Gullfoss waterfall. This is sometimes referred to as “the queen of Iceland’s waterfalls”. Finally, but no less spectacular is a visit to the Þingvellir National Park. This is the original site of the oldest existing parliament in the world. The Great Atlantic rift is clearly visible, a rift that is slowly pulling Iceland apart along tectonic plates.
Your short break has come to an end and it is time to return home after a wonderful experience in Iceland. If flight times permit and you didn’t, we recommend that you visit the Blue Lagoon if you didn’t visit on Day 1.
