If you only have eight days in Ireland, then this is the best way to spend them. The Best of Ireland 8 Day Tour gets to the real heart of Ireland, from cosmopolitan Dublin to the wild Atlantic coast, through the luscious midlands and the quintessential Irish towns that make this country so unique. If you want to see all of the best bits of the country without rushing, then this tour is for you.
Your tour leaves from the Ashling Hotel, Dublin at 11am, heading straight to the heart of Ireland, County Westmeath. Relax, freshen up and recuperate from your flight.
After dinner, we treat you to a truly unique Irish experience, in the form of the Exploring Vacations Hooley.
Another trip exclusive to Exploring Vacations, today you will explore the the geographical and sacred centre of Ireland, the Hill of Uisneach. This hill has a number of things to see including the Cat Stone, a 30 ton boulder that marks the centre of the country and the burial sites of two ancient Celtic gods. From there you can wander around the quintessential Irish town of Mullingar and see all of the sights on a walking tour.
You’ll leave Mullingar in the morning and head to the wild west coast, stopping off at the most important historical monastic complex in the country, Clonmacnoise. Then it’s on to the otherworldly landscape of the Burren, a sea of rocky plains and hills that looks more like the moon than earth! From one inspiring sight to another, your next stop is the Cliffs of Moher, which rise 700 feet out of the sea and stretch as far as the eye can see.
Today you cross the epic River Shannon to the Kingdom of Kerry, where your first destination is the lively seaside town of Dingle. You’ll see Europe’s most westerly point and take on the amazing Slea Head Drive, which has the greatest concentration of ancient sites in Kerry, and probably in Ireland too. End the day with a stroll along Inch Beach and look out over the wild Atlantic sea.
Today you’ll get to explore Killarney National Park in a memorable way; by traditional jaunting car. A visit to the 15th century Ross Castle is also on the cards – it was the last fortress to fall to Cromwell in the 1600s, followed by a road trip of epic proportions along the Ring of Kerry, a 180km circular route around the most breathtaking scenery in the country.
Leaving the Kingdom behind, today you will stop off at Blarney Castle with its famous Blarney Stone; if you kiss it, you’ll be rewarded with the gift of eloquence. Following that it’s into beautiful Tipperary, through the Glen of Aherlow to the truly majestic Rock of Cashel, sitting high atop a craggy hill. This monastic complex includes a 12th century round tower, high cross and romanesque chapel, a 13th century gothic cathedral, and 15th century castle.
Today you enter Dublin’s fair city, the cosmopolitan capital of Ireland and more importantly, the home of Guinness! Your first stop is the Guinness Storehouse where you can learn all about how the black stuff is made and enjoy a pint in the rooftop bar overlooking the entire city. Then it’s on to Trinity College to view the ancient and stunning Book of Kells, before transfer to your hotel for the night close to the airport.
You’ll leave the Emerald Isle behind today, so make sure to spend the last of your euros and pick up any last gifts or souvenirs before you head on your way. Remember you’re always welcome back!
