The This is Britain Tour encompasses 6 quintessentially British cities in 9 days. That’s three countries and and three capital cities, as well as miles and miles of rolling emerald countryside in between. With a maximum of 30 people per coach and both a driver and tour director on board, you can be sure that you’ll get the individual attention you deserve.
You’ll be whisked away to Windsor from Heathrow Airport, where you’ll have the afternoon to explore the Queen’s primary residence and the largest inhabited castle in the world, Windsor Castle. Following this, you’ll meet your tour director and fellow travellers for a night of good food and getting to know each other.
On day two the group heads north into the heart of the English countryside. You’ll stop off in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s home town, for a look around the Bard’s birthplace. From there you can admire the rolling hills of the Cotswolds before arriving at your destination for the evening, York.
Today you’ll explore the winding medieval streets of York on a walking tour, and take in the stately York Minster. Then, you’ll drive through the heart stopping Northumberland National Park to Jedburgh Abbey, one of four great abbeys built in Scotland’s border country some 900 years ago.
Use your prepaid City Sightseeing ticket to see as many of Edinburgh’s attractions as possible today. You can choose where you want to go and when, but one unmissable sight is the brooding Edinburgh Castle, which overlooks the whole city from the top of a hill.
Day Five takes in several incredible sights, starting with the old Blacksmith’s shop at Gretna Green, a famous wedding venue near the English border. From there you’ll drive through the incredible landscape of the Lake District, stopping in Grasmere, where William Wordsworth spent much of his life. Finally, you’ll make it to Liverpool, home of the most famous rock band of all time – The Beatles! A must visit is The Beatles Story to experience the music and lives of the fantastic four.
Today you’ll make your way across the border to Wales. You’ll stop off in the historic border town of Ludlow and the beautiful ruins of Tintern Abbey dating from 1131. From there it’s on to the Welsh capital of Cardiff, where you’ll take a tour of Cardiff Castle followed by a sumptuous traditional Welsh banquet.
After a quick panoramic tour of Cardiff, you’ll head to the spa town of Bath, famous for… you guessed it, Roman Baths! The 2,000 year old baths and pump room is still perfectly preserved and functioning. Next up is one of Britain’s most famous landmarks, the prehistoric structure of Stonehenge in Salisbury.
You have a free day today to explore all London has to offer as you see fit. Take an open top bus tour to see the the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, and more. Then head down to the famous Tower Bridge and the nearby Tower of London to get an up-close look at the crown jewels.
Your tour ends here and you can spend the remainder of your time in this great city indulging in some retail therapy, soaking up the culture or just relaxing before your journey home.
