Perhaps best suited to the returning visitor to Italian shores, who has seen all the must see stuff and now wish to see more…
Remember all of our itineraries are completely adaptable; they can be interchanged, added to, extended, and shortened – all are fully customizable, so you get exactly what you want. On this tour, you will travel between each of your destinations in a state of the art coach with full touring spec and your own driver and guide. You select the number of nights in each place, your desired hotels and activities.
A representative will be waiting for you and take you to the place where the most romantic story of them all unfolded – Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. We recommend that you purchase our optional Verona City Tour and Wine Tasting where you will visit some of the most famous places in Verona with an expert guide for an unforgettable tour of this most romantic city. The tour will end in a historical wine bar to taste some good local wine!
Explore the largest of the Italian lakes, straddling the border between Lombardy and Veneto, with soaring mountains to the north and softer hills to the south. Sitting on an impossibly narrow peninsula on the southern shore, Sirmione is Garda’s most picturesque village and is a great place to kick-start your exploring. From the jetty near the castle, all sorts of vessels will make any manner of trip around the lake.
The Cinque Terre is a necklace of five tiny fishing villages strung along the southern end of the Italian Riviera. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and a marvel even to the most jaded of travellers – It is a place to kick back and relax, to take a break from Italy’s cultural treadmill of art-stuffed museums, frescoed churches, and ancient ruins and just sit back and let la dolce vita wash over you. There are no roads, seriously – the villages are best accessed by train, on water or by foot. Hike from one town to the next along ancient goat-herd paths clinging to the cliffs above the deep blue waters as you wind through terraced vineyards. When you’re done your amble, splash in the waters of the Mediterranean. Sunbathe on a pebble beach. Sip a glass of wine at a cafe table overlooking a tiny harbour bobbing with colourful fishing boats. Savour a four-hour dinner surrounded by the stone walls of a family-run trattoria.
HOTELS CINQUE TERRA
Exploring Vacations is contracted with over 15 hotels in Cinque Terre, all in central areas.
Very much in the shadow of Tuscany, its noisy neighbour; Umbria the lesser known sibling, is similar to its big brother but without the crowds.
Arriving in Assisi, one is struck about how little has changed since St. Francis himself was preaching here. Spend the afternoon at Basilica Di San Francesco, circling the inner walls is one of the most famous pieces of art in the world – Giotto’s giant fresco of St. Francis’ life.
Spelunk your way through a glistening forest of stalactites at Grotte di Frasassi; Have the most fun you can getting to church on the rickety ride up Mount Ingino aboard Gubbio’s Funivia Colle Eletto. Spend the afternoon exploring Perugia taking in Palazzo dei Priori, Galleria dell’Umbria and the sweetest of the lot – Perugina Chocolate Factory.
Drive down the lesser spotted east coast of Italy to the spur of the boot – Gargano National Park – one of Italy’s most beautiful areas. The drive will take four hours, much of it on the coast, through an area that is rarely seen by foreign visitors.
Puglia which forms the heel The Boot is Italy’s most underrated region. Spend the day enjoying Gargano National Park.
Your first glimpse of Matera will be dominated by its famous sassi, stone houses etched out of caves and cliffs. Matera, one of the world’s oldest towns is unique and deserves aimless wandering, exploring the serpentine alleyways and cave churches of the sassi. Your afternoon will take you from one extreme to another at Alberobello and it’s Hobbit-style, gnome size trulli dwellings.
The beautiful Baroque town of Lecce right down in the heel of Italy is the ultimate off the beaten track gem – a little challenging to get to, but so well worth the effort.
Drive up to Naples, and take the ferry across to Capri, the island of seduction. It is four square miles of sharp lava blanketed with lush green foliage, white cube houses, and walls spilling over with bougainvillea. This Eden of oleander and jasmine is surrounded sparkling deep blue and green waters and eerily lit sea grottoes. Capri’s sheer physical beauty and dreamy laid-back lifestyle has attracted sun-seekers for millennia, from Roman emperors to latter day hedonists. It is a great place to overnight, as the day-trippers leave the scene and Mediterranean charm claims back the island.
Take the ferry back across the Bay of Naples. We recommend that your purchase our optional private transfer who will meet you at the port and take you directly to your hotel in Naples
Depart your hotel for the airport for your return home.A representative will meet you at your hotel, in time to take you to the airport for your departure flight.
