One of England’s biggest cities, Liverpool has enough attractions to keep any visitor busy for days. This city gave us the Beatles, and the Beatles Story contains everything you ever wanted to know about the band, and more. Football fans will have a trip to Anfield stadium high on their list, while shopaholics will be spoiled for choice too. Delve into the city’s maritime history at Pier head, or just marvel at the grand architecture all around the city.
Another of England’s popular seaside resorts, Brighton has a thriving student population as well as a large gay community, lending the town a relaxed, bohemian atmosphere. All the usual seaside attractions are here including a golden sandy beach, promenade and pier bursting with amusements and shops, and the interesting architecture of the Royal Pavilion. The town has a real buzz in May during the Brighton festival, England’s answer and close rival to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Often voted as one of the top cities for quality of life in England, Exeter also has plenty to offer the overseas visitor. Another city with Roman origins, Exeter is surrounded by city walls – although sadly now incomplete, they can still be viewed at various points. There is also an impressive cathedral with the longest unbroken stone roof beam in the world, and plenty of medieval churches, underground passages, and squares to explore.
In the sunny south west corner of England lies Cornwall, a remote seaside region full of breathtaking scenery, historic towns, villages and buildings, and arguably the tastiest snack in the world; the meaty, peppery , potato-y Cornish pasty! Watch the waves crash along the South West Coast Path, which runs along the entire peninsula, see the spooky offshore fortress of St. Michael’s Mount, or examine some otherworldly exotic plants in the futuristic domes of the Eden Project.
Spend today exploring the city of Bath. Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Bath is home to some of the finest architectural sights in Europe such as the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge alongside an extensive collection of museums and attractions. Discover Bath’s heritage at the world famous Roman Baths, bathe in Britain’s only natural thermal waters at Thermae Bath Spa or visit the 15th century Bath Abbey. From art and history, to fashion and Jane Austen, there really is something for everyone. Return to your accommodation in the Bath area.
Salisbury is a cathedral town, and boy does it have a spectacular cathedral. Built in the 1200s, it boasts the highest spire in England and is surrounded by perfectly manicured lawns. There’s plenty more to see in the town too – Old Sarum, the original site of the city with evidence of habitation as early as 3,000 BC, is a must. Not too far away is Stonehenge, a neolithic monument and iconic landmark of England.
The pristine town of Windsor with its stunning medieval castle is still regularly visited by the Queen and the royal family, who use the castle as their private residence away from London. The nearby Eton College is where many of the family members (as well as the best of the best of British society) are educated, and both are simply stunning complexes to wander around. Windsor is surrounded by typically English rolling countryside, just begging to be explored.
